The new highway is no open and take only about 2 - 2.5 hours without stopping. But there is no rush, so I recommend you stop along the way to take photos, eat lunch, and see nature.
Take the Pan-American Highway (Highway 1) going north. Stay in the center lane and follow the sign toward San Ramon. After about 12 kilometers take the exit and turn left on Highway 3 toward Atenas. Follow this road for a few kilometers.
Turn left in “La Garita”, after the famous restaurant “Fiesta del Mais” (just past the soccer field). Follow the small road for 3 km until you see the new highway. Turn left just before going under the highway. Drive about 300 meters to take the entry ramp for the highway. Note: This is a tollway so you will need to pay along the way. They do take US currency.
Follow the toll highway toward Orotina. Past the Orotina toll plaza, take the exit toward "Jaco - Punta Leona". Continue to follow the signs toward Quepos / Manuel Antonio / Jaco. Be careful with your speed! Drivers coming from the other direction will sometimes warn you that a speed check is coming up by flashing their lights.
There is a long, two-lane bridge just outside of Orotina. If you want to see the Crocodiles that live below, park BEFORE the bridge and walk 1/2 across the bridge and look straight down. There are always very large crocodiles (as big as 15 feet) living down there.
After passing Punta Leona at the right you will see the Plaza Herradura Shopping Mall with Auto Mercado supermarket and several restaurants. The Auto Mercado is a popular supermarket to shop before continuing to Quepos. It has a great selection of imported 'Western' food, much better than any shop in Quepos or Manuel Antonio. Since it's still 60 minutes to Quepos from here you shouldn't buy here any goods which have to stay cool (meat, ice, etc).
Continue to follow the signs toward Manuel Antonio / Quepos.
--------------------
When you come to Quepos you'll drive over a small bridge and come to a fork in the road. Take the left fork (low road). When you see the sign Manuel Antonio Park 7 km turn left.
Call your property manager while you are in Quepos to make sure he will be meeting you at the house (or meet in Quepos).
Contine through the edge of Quepos and follow the signs toward Manuel Antonio.
This road is abour 4.5 miles of hilly twists and turns and is considered Manuel Antonio. We can give you more exact directions to each house, but you can see the approximate locations of each house on the map above.
All of our homes are conveniently located in the most exclusive, prestigeous areas of Manuel Antonio and are very easy to reach |
